Yuletide Letter 2022

Hi! I have previous past letters with longer likes lists that still hold true, so, feel free to peruse my past 2020 Fic in a Box letter for generalities or any past letters with applicable fandoms, though please be aware of my current DNWs. Due to time constraints, much of this is copy-pasted from past letters. All of the fandom specific stuff is copy-pasted from my AO3 sign up.

I really do want all of my requests. If one section is longer than another, it's due to how much I had to say or available to copy-paste, not an indication that I want the request more. All of my prompts are just ideas for if you need a place to start; I'd also be really happy with something running with my likes.

I'm open to treats, including art for Wrapping Paper.

I like all ratings for works, from General Audiences to Explicit (though I do not want sexually explicit works for Dwarf Fortress).

I'm open to any length, from just over the minimum to sprawling epics (and under the min for treats).

I like both traditional fic and non-traditional and experimental formats, including interactive fiction, Choose Your Own Adventure, epistolary, in universe documents, and multimedia. I like past and present tense. I generally prefer third person (especially consistent third person limited where POV shift only happens in scene breaks or doesn't happen at all) or a match to canon (which in some cases is going to be first (as with ISMM) or second) or a match to the standards of the form (e.g. first person for epistolary, letters, and journals; second person for CYOA and IF).

(I'm open to everything! These are just preferences.)

Art Likes

Go as E- or G-rated as you'd like. I especially like character expressions and things that set mood (color, body language, composition, etc), as well as scenery. I also like details in clothing, jewelry, and hairstyles and hair ribbons and fancy hair pieces where appropriate (e.g. fancy weddings including fancy clothes).

I really enjoy settings, background, and other details, so if you're like, "Oh, no, is this extra detail unwanted?" the answer will always be no, please give it to me. On the flip side, please don't feel like you have to go super in depth to please me. I'm sure I will be happy wherever you end up on the spectrum.

Some non-explicit poses I especially like for ships are characters kissing (on the mouth, the temple, the top of the head, hands, the cheek, etc), holding hands, hugging, carrying each other (princess carry, fireman, piggyback, shoulder rides), dancing, cuddling, and pressing their foreheads together.

For sexually explicit art, feel free to take anything from my smut likes, but for something visual, I especially like bruises and marks, bondage, face touching or holding hands or other visual forms of intimacy and affection while fucking (and also just in general), and hair-petting or pulling.

For longform art like comics, I enjoy action scenes, quieter things like characters solving mysteries, happy slice of life comics for my ships, horror comics (both where we see the horror and where it's always off-screen, ominous and left to the imagination), romantic comedies, and just plain romance. None of that sound interesting? Please peruse my long and varied likes lists!

For art based on live action series, I'm less concerned about the characters looking exactly like the actors and more about them being recognizable/capturing the feeling of the characters. Same for other types of canons, too, really. I'm not the right audience for more abstract works that require the viewer reading into the work or ones that require extrapolation on the viewer's part, as I'll admit I'm terrible at that, but otherwise, if the style you want to use differs from the style of canon, I'd be happy to see what you come up with. For any canon, I'd be happy with whatever your style is, something in the style of canon, or something in the style of another canon if that sounds like fun for you!

• Permanent non-canon death of Qiu Congxue, Baili Qingmiao, Shu Yanyan, Wen Renhe, Yin Hanjiang, Zhong Liqian, or Xie Huai that takes the character out of the story. (I'm okay with mentioning the events of the first/original universe, character death that leads to reincarnation within the story, non-permanent character death, characters ascending in a way that lets them still interact with characters on the mortal plane, and characters becoming ghosts that stick around.)

Disco Elysium (Video Game) DNWs:

• Fascist or racist Harry (including and especially a Harry who fails the check to convince Kim to dance in the church).
• Unrequested Harry or Kim ships. (Background Harry->Dora is fine, as is past Harry/Dora, as are references to Harry obliviously having a thing for the Smoker on the Balcony, as are brief references to Harry or Kim having had relationships with OCs, but I do not want Harry or Kim actively with someone else or for Harry or Kim ships that aren't Harry/Kim to feature.)
• Permanent character death of Harry, Kim, or Elizabeth. Permanent character death of characters who did not/could not die in Disco Elysium. (If they could die in DE and weren't Harry, Kim, or Elizabeth, feel free to go with a version of events where they died. I'm fine with temporary character death so long as all the characters this DNW applies to are alive at the end of the story. If you want to turn Harry or Kim into a permanent ghost who sticks around for a ghost/human ship fic ghost love story, I am also fine with that, but please not for gen fic. Harry as a zombie going with my unknowing zombie prompt is also perfectly fine!)

Dwarf Fortress DNWs:

• Pet-type animals dying by direct dwarf action. (So no cats as domesticated meat animals, but kitten bombs or a cat army to try to defeat forgotten beasts are fine.)
• On-screen explicit sex for Dwarf Fortress.

RED (Movies) DNWs:

• Permanent non-canonical character death of named RED characters. (If they didn't die in canon, don't permanently kill them off in your work. Temporary character death in time travel, time loops, or other tropes that allow for temporarily killing a character are fine so long as the characters are alive again by the end of the fic. I am also fine with Victoria as a permanent ghost who sticks around for a ghost/human ship fic ghost love story, but please not for gen fic.)
• Unrequested Victoria or Han Cho Bai ships. (An extremely brief reference to Victoria/Ivan is fine, but I do not want it to feature. I do not want a work that focuses on or features any Victoria or Han Cho Bai ship unless it's Victoria/Han Cho Bai, even if it's a past relationship.)

Rubyquest DNWs:

• Permanent character death of Ruby. (Everyone else is i n d a n g e r.)
• Explicit sexual content unless it's a human AU. (If human AU, feel free to keep in the body horror extras like Ruby's third eye and Red's slash smile. This DNW isn't angling for a human AU so much as angling away from explicit anthropomorphic bunny/fox sex.)

DNW Clarifications and Explications:

Comas and unrequested real life serious illness: Weird confined to canon stuff like Without a Cure, qi deviations, or chakra exhaustion are fine. Cancer is not.

Gender-related dysphoria: Dysphoria unrelated to gender is fine. I'm good with body horror, but if someone transmigrates into an AFAB body from an AMAB one or vice versa (or something else where gender dysphoria can crop up), I don't want descriptions of their discomfort with their new chest or genitalia or signs that their gender identity is a reason this experience is distressing for them. Discomfort over things like the body being the wrong height or the arms being shorter or other things that could be the same whether male or female are fine. "This is weird, but I'm rolling with it" is fine. "I have breasts now and I'm actively distraught over it" is not a good fit for a gift for me.

Trans characters existing without any reference to them experiencing dysphoria is fine (as are references to binding, tucking, and other things that I have room to read as to do with presentation alone).

I'm fine with pregnancy experienced as body horror in mpreg, but in that case, please still avoid active distress over developing breast tissue/anything in the chest area, and please heed the pregnancy of trans men DNW.

Pregnancy of trans men: To be as clear as possible, this DNW is for pregnancy of people who were assigned female at birth but identify as men. So long as my other DNWs are followed, I'm fine with things like people changing around their own body, including their reproductive systems, with magic or by other means to try to make mpreg possible; trans women or nonbinary people getting pregnant; or male transmigrators getting pregnant (whether it's because they fell into an omegaverse world, men can just get pregnant in this world, or they ended up in a female body (in which in this one case, yes, you can mpreg a newly trans man, though please heed the gender-related dysphoria DNW)).

Dubcon, noncon, rapeplay. Sexual harassment or menacing: In the past, I've been fine with (and liked) a lot of dubcon, but I currently don't want any. In the case of anything that could be taken in a dub- or noncon direction, I want the consensual version only.

Memory issues related to sex: Memory issues unrelated to sex are fine.

Infidelity etc.: Poly is fine. I don't want anyone confused on the fact that it is poly, not cheating.

In general, my major concern is to avoid a) definitely cheating in any direction, b) something in which one part of the ship thinks the other part is in a closed relationship and that's what the main ship is engaging in, c) something in which one half of a closed relationship believes the other is cheating on them and we the audience are likely to also think that's what's going on and which comprises a major, ongoing part of the work as opposed to something brief and mistaken.

References to canon infidelity are fine.

Focus on unrequited love: For pining for requested ships, characters can think it is unrequited, but I would like them to be wrong. References to things as they stand at whatever point in canon are fine in canons where unrequited love comes up, but I'd rather not get a fic entirely about a character being sad that their love is a one way street and ending up alone unless explicitly requested.

Underage (under 18) sex: References to teenagers being sexually active in teenager-typical ways is fine, but I'd rather not get explicit sex scenes.

Adult/currently-a-minor relationships: Aging up so everyone is over 18 is fine. Relationships between two people roughly the same age is fine, like a 17 and 19 year old. References to minors having unrequited crushes on adults is fine (though in that case, again, I'd rather not have that unrequited crush be a major focus). For scenarios in which two adults knew each other when one was a minor, I'd prefer not to have direct references to the possibility that anything could've happened then, even if it's to emphasize that the younger adult is an adult now.

Anal tearing or bleeding: Dry sex and using things that aren't lube as lubricant (e.g. semen or spit) going by porn logic is fine so long as there's no damage from it.

Women on the receiving end of anal: If women are having anal sex, I want them to be on the giving end only (so f->m pegging is fine).

Contract or 24/7 BDSM or use of the word "master" in a sexual context: Mentioning this because I have a lot of BDSM-related or adjacent likes. It wouldn't ruin my night or fic, but I'm not super into the formalized contract thing or it being the focus of a relationship/what the relationship is primarily about, and I don't want to accidentally set any traps for my author. I'm fine with and enjoy non-formalized play, with people having fun with pain, bondage, some power dynamics (e.g. characters addressing each other by title), etc.

Painplay as a punishment or unintended and/or unwelcome sexual arousal from a punishment or torture: If someone's getting spanked, I want it to be because they want it. If someone's getting tortured, I don't want it to be sexual.

Requests Copy-Pasted from AO3

You do not have to write me all three characters so long as you include Qiu Congxue AND Shu Yanyan or Baili Qingmiao. So you can write a) Qiu Congxue, Shu Yanyan, and Baili Qingmiao, b) Qiu Congxue and Shu Yanyan, or c) Qiu Congxue and Baili Qingmiao. I would love gen or Qiu Congxue femslash with Shu Yanyan or Baili Qingmiao. Qiu Congxue is my unabashed favorite, but I love all three of these characters a lot. I especially love Qiu Congxue's unique approach to problem-solving (just scoop out that character's brain and put in some ghosts! bam, fixed), so if you want to include her giving suggestions or advice to solving life problems, I would be absolutely delighted.

Non-exhaustive list of some prompts I would be very happy with receiving: more adventures from when Qiu Congxue and Baili Qingmiao were wandering together, five times Qiu Congxue attacks Bailli Qingmiao's sect and one time she saved it, pre-canon Shu Yanyan and Qiu Congxue, post-canon Qiu Congxue's five plans she forgets to execute for taking over the demonic sect and one time she defends Shu Yanyan's throne, Qiu Congxue in a time loop and Baili Qingmiao and/or Shu Yanyan either trapped in it with her or having to help her out of it, or Qiu Congxue peggy sue-ing it up and what that results in.

If you ship Harry/Kim, I'd love any Harry/Kim content you'd like to throw in with the worldbuilding. If you would like to write a purely Harry/Kim ship fic, I would also be fine with you not adding any worldbuilding at all. If you do not ship Harry/Kim (or just plain aren't feeling it this time even if you do), I'd also be very happy with Harry & Kim gen with worldbuilding. No matter what, I would like both Harry and Kim featured in my gift. If it's gen, I would also like worldbuilding.

I love Harrys that are both zany and serious, hustlers and all about the revolution. Superstar, Apocalypse, Boring, Art, Honour, and Hobocop are all fine by me. Communist and Moralist are my favorite alignments, but I'm also fine with Ultraliberal. I do not want a racist or fascist Harry. Some of my favorite thoughts for the thought cabinet for character and story reasons are Detective Costeau, Homo-Sexual Underground, Inexplicable Feminist Agenda, Remote Viewers Division, and Waste Land of Reality. I really love a Harry who is trying to get sober, but if you want to embrace an alcoholic disaster Supercop Harry or go down some other path, that's also fine.

A non-exhaustive list of things I'd really enjoy: Harry and Kim playing more tabletop strategy games. Another case that reveals a bit more about Revachol and/or the world around them. Harry and/or Kim time traveling or experiencing a time loop (in game or after). More about the Pale. More cryptozoology, successful or not, real or fake.

I love this fandom. Whether you want to focus on one of the characters nominated or to use something or someone else as a means of worldbuilding, I'm sure I'll be excited to see what you come up with. Want to write a story based on one of your games? A particular mechanic you love? Something diving into the sorts of worlds DF creates? A bit of history generated in one of your world states? Something else? I'm 100% here for it.

I want to emphasize that while I'd love gen for this fandom, I'd also be happy with ships between any sentient humanoid characters for DF, including original characters.

• Han Cho Bai

I absolutely ship this, so if you do, too, I'd love ship fic. If you would prefer to write gen, I'd also enjoy something canon-typical with both of them, as I love both characters separately and together. I would like both characters featured in whatever work I receive.

Prompts stolen from Yuletides past that I would still love to see:

Something gen: I'd love to see Han and Victoria (feel free to include other characters from the rest of the gang, if you'd like?) going on adventures, getting together to save the world, or even just attending some sort of RED reunion (which Han crashes for Reasons). Any sort of spy equivalent to case fic would make me clap my hands with glee.

Something shippy: The above, plus Han/Victoria. They have to go undercover as a couple for plot reasons! (Han surprises himself with how much he enjoys playing boy-toy to Victoria's rich older lady. Victoria, meanwhile, is not surprised at all by how much she enjoys it all.) Han does not so much crash the reunion as show up as Victoria's plus one. They save the world and then they kiss.

Something dark: GHOST LOVE STORY. The only acceptable way to kill these characters: Victoria dies and haunts Han, giving him advice, even when he doesn't want it, critiquing his form and methods, drinking scotch and laughing at his few mishaps. And then they kiss.

Something explicit: Victoria helps Han break in his new plane. Alternately: car sex.

• Red (Rubyquest)

I'm open to both canon and non-canon ships in the background. As a focus, I'd be happy with Red/Ruby. I'd also be happy with gen. Unlike some of my other requests, I want both Red and Ruby featured in my gift.

I love all the Rubyquest characters, so I'd be pleased with any other characters you want to bring in as a background or supporting character. I also love worldbuilding, so if you want to go Red & Ruby (or Red/Ruby) heavy worldbuilding, I'd be very happy with that. I also love horror, so feel free to lean into that aspect of Rubyquest as much as you'd like, from a little bit spooky to "I will sleep with the lights on tonight."

Some prompts from Yuletides past I would still love to see:

Something gen: What was the Glen like before everything went pear-shaped? Were Red and Ruby friends? Did the company have doctor-patient group picnics? Or maybe something post-game, in which a fourth survivor appears via hand-growth resurrection. How would Ruby et al deal with that?

Something shippy: I am not sure I can be coherent here, but pretty much anything Red/Ruby would make me clap my hands in excitement. Canon-divergent AU in which there is a Red/Ruby romance instead of/in addition to a Tom/Ruby one? (I'm fine with poly; I do not want this as infidelity.) Post-canon resurrection scenario, but with additional Red/Ruby? Pre-canon fic in which Red and Ruby had a thing before she gave him that Glasgow smile? Complete AU? This is me making grabby hands and not being picky in the least.

Something dark: Eldritch abominations! Body horror! Unethical medical experimentation! Murder! Glasgow smiles! Rubyquest is full of the dark and disturbing, and it is delightful. Whether you want to document the Glen's (and Ruby's) slow slide into madness, to tell me about a much less successful Rubyquest run, five ways Red and Ruby die, or something else entirely, I am here for it.

Something explicit: If you want to write me Red/Ruby porn, I'd prefer it to be a human AU. Of course, feel free to keep the third eye/pointy smile that never ends/assorted body horror stuff … unless you don't want to, in which case, yes, sure, humans without horrifying extras.
