On talking and not about Israel and Palestine

8 Bit Theater has finally come to an end. The epilogue is up now. I'll miss you, 8BT.

[community profile] kink_bingo card sign-ups are open through August 15. To be eligible for the next round, you need to finish one story/picture/whatever before next May 15, so you've got almost a full year. This year, you can sign up for consent play-free cards.

Second Annual Femslash Kink Meme

Yahoo is once again withholding some of my comment notifications for long periods of time. Why do you do this to me, Yahoo?

At some point, when I am feeling much better, I want to talk to y'all about In Plain Sight, which [personal profile] bessemerprocess once told me was amazing and which [personal profile] the_wanlorn finally convinced me to Netflix. At the least, let me tell you this now: they were totally right! But yes, an actual review to come at some point later.

My ability to post brought on by insomnia. I watched the latest two Doctor Who eps, and let me just say: I will never sleep again.

I thought I had a bunch of recs to make a mixed rec set, but right now I can only find the one:

blahblahblah (LJ) by [profile] kaiyote. My only complaint about this amazing vid is that there is not more--I could watch twenty minutes of it gladly, but it's only thirty seconds. It's Castiel/Dean and perfect, perfect, perfect. It's also streaming at Youtube.

Some links:

Royal albatross hatchling born to lesbian mothers.

Five Ways to Write Femslashy Porn by [personal profile] dagas_isa is full of fun and awesomeness.

Vidder sign-ups are open for the AO3 vidder auction.

Sneak Peek for SPN 5x21, to which I can only say: "OMG, YES." (Note: this is not an invitation to give me any other spoilers, and if you want to talk about this specific clip in comments, which I am up for, please warn for spoilers in your comment's subject line for passers-by.)

It's Not You, It's Me by [personal profile] originalpuck: "Because you see, if I don't respond to one of your comments, 9 times out of 10 it has nothing to do with how I value you as a reader, as a friend, as a volunteer beta. No, 9 times out of 10 it has to do with my panic disorder."

Your wish to interact with me is not my obligation to respond.

Warnings for femslash? Are really fucking offensive. Especially when it's for, quote, non-graphic femslash.

Warnings for femslash when you didn't warn for the dudeslash that makes up the bulk of your fic? Makes me wonder if it's a matter of pandering to misogynists; to homophobic women who, like Republican men who watch fake lesbian porn, enjoy the mental image of two men together but shudder at the thought of real live queer women; or to all of the above.

Seriously, what the actual fuck, fandom.

[personal profile] fan_eunice is, as I already mentioned, doing a really cool weekly Doctor Who vidding project. Right now, her posts revolve mostly around vidding, Doctor Who, and China Beach.
[personal profile] bossymarmalade has fabulous links, thinky posts, and also recs in a number of fandoms (including Avatar the Last Airbender) and is all around good people.
[personal profile] charlieblue has these occasional picspams that are amazing, meta, episode reviews, promo posts, and more in a variety of fandoms including Fringe, Doctor Who, and True Blood, and as if that's not enough, she also writes excellent fic. The only downside: I would not blame you for hating her for being so talented.
[personal profile] the_wanlorn has been posting a poem a day lately, and it is very happy-making. All of her fandom posts (in Lost, In Plain Sight, Bones, and more) are so enthusiastic that even though we don't share many fandoms at the moment, they never fail to cheer me up, even when she is raging about the many ways her fandom of the moment fails. You should subscribe to her and tell her that the world needs the Booth/Brennan/Sweets fic she could be writing now.

[syndicated profile] zooborns_feed has baby animals! Look at this baby meerkat and its mom and tell me your day isn't a little brighter for it.
[syndicated profile] disabledfeminists_feed is the feed for FWD/Forward, which has news link round-ups and interesting articles on feminist and disability issues.

[community profile] backtoschool is a Supernatural/Supernatural RPF fandom fest for university AUs open to fic, fan art, mixes, and vids, with sign-ups open through May 20th.
[community profile] anti_recs: "reviews of things to avoid."
[community profile] forkedtongues: "This is a community for sharing the languages we know and love, and talking about being multilingual. Translations and transliterations of prose and poetry, links to resources for fonts, scripts, dictionaries, reviews of translated books and subtitled movies, and general discussion around the non-English languages and the cultures they are embedded in are welcome." The poetry posts never fail to make my day.
[community profile] factfinding: Dreamwidth's counterpart to [livejournal.com profile] littledetails, this is "where to go when Google fails you."
[community profile] episodic_supernatural "is for all your Supernatural episode related stories, missing scenes and episode tags."
[community profile] access_fandom: "For talking about Access and disability issues in Fandom." Also has excellent link round-ups.
[community profile] tenwomen: "10 women. 10 stories. 1 year." I already linked this in an earlier post, but I wanted to get this challenge under the Follow Friday tag. As I said before, this looks seriously cool.

Tonight I'm going to see The Losers with [personal profile] lizfu. It has Zoe Saldana and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and basically I am stuck smiling and smiling at just the prospect of seeing Zoe Saldana on the big screen twice in two weeks. (If Death at a Funeral had just been about her character (Elaine) and her brother, Jeff, I would have gone to see it a million times.)

I don't know what I've done to my left knee (past, well, our previous rocky history), but it is being even more hateful than usual.

Have a bunch of links:

Neil Gaiman's GRAVE ERROR Links (credit: Kynn) (LJ), a link round-up by [livejournal.com profile] ithiliana of the many reasons why I'm done with Neil Gaiman.

interesting. no, wait, the other thing: tedious. by [personal profile] ciderpress, in which [personal profile] ciderpress lays out some really good points on Glee, white privilege, and hipster racism.
This is what happens when people steeped in white privilege make jokes about racism with the victims of racism, rather than the racists, the butt of the jokes. This is why people steeped in white privilege don't really know how to make "jokes" about race that non-white/chromatic/poc think are funny. This is what happens when apologists try to wave away critique of race issues in real life, in entertainment and pretend there isn't a problem, pretend it doesn't contribute to society, to culture, to our every day lives. Racist speech in the guise of jokes becomes okay. Racism becomes okay, racism becomes normal, ordinary.

[community profile] tenwomen looks incredibly cool. "The Challenge: produce 10 creative works (via writing, fanart, vidding, or any other medium) in which the central main or narrative character identifies as female." I think I could at the very least make half that, with my next Ruby project, finishing that Devil Wears Prada fic, the Jordan Todd on vacation with the BAU femslash I started as a drabble for [community profile] dark_agenda (which, yeah, dropped the ball there), the yearly Juliet femslash, and one or two other things I have lying around. A year is a very long time! It is definitely a possibility.

How excited am I about Going Postal? Very! I saw someone else comment on the general weirdness and disconnect of a blond Vetinari, but if that's the only thing that doesn't match for me, I will be one very happy penguin indeed.

I keep shuffling this around in my recs drafts, but really, you should all experience it as it's happening: [personal profile] fan_eunice has an amazing vid project in which she posts her episode review every week in vid form. Victory of the Daleks is my favorite so far, but they are all epic.

There is a Disney Kink meme (LJ).

The Politics of Hit Girl: if nothing else, I agree with this reviewer that I would be all over the next Kick Ass movie if it were Hit Girl. Seriously, I could've watched a whole movie about her.

Blogging Against Disablism Day will be on 1st May, 2010

RPF Comment Fic meme. I am always so happy when the comment fic memes come over to Dreamwidth so that the fic I am writing or reading can usually be held in one nice long comment rather than split into eleven parts. \o/

What to do with Dreamwidth: a list of tutorials and information by [personal profile] stepps. This is really, really cool.

I've seen often linked with it [personal profile] coffeeandink's How to Move from LJ to Dreamwidth in Six Easy Steps. I still have four codes if anyone wants them.

On the note of Dreamwidth being awesome, comm import is in the works now that OpenID accounts can be members of comms. Eee.

I moved [livejournal.com profile] tuesdayfic over to Dreamwidth as [personal profile] tuesdayficarchived. All new fic is still going to [community profile] tuesdayfic and [archiveofourown.org profile] tuesday. (I'm still in love with Dreamwidth's user name tagging. Is it obvious?)

[community profile] spn_bitesized's current round is AU/AR week. Go leave Castiel/Dean, Castiel/Sam, or Ruby/anyone prompts for me to choose from. Uh, I mean, go leave what prompts you feel like so . . . people can write them. Right. Tuesday commands it.

Appeals Court Throttles FCC’s Net Neutrality Authority

[community profile] fangasmic will be changing its name to fangasmic. It's nice to see when a comm's response to having a problem pointed out is to do their best to fix that problem. Mostly, though, I want to note: how awesome is it that even though rename tokens aren't yet available, DW site admin are ready and willing to make the change manually?

Sign-ups for [community profile] ladiesbigbang are open through April 30.

For anyone interested, Sweet Charity still has sign-ups through the tenth, unlike previous years, in which sign-ups closed before the auction started. (The auction itself is open through the eleventh.)

Healthcare Reform! It is not perfect, but it is a huge step forward.

As [personal profile] norabombay pointed out, Obama campaign shirts are $5 if you are in a celebratory mood.

This is the most entrancing thing I've seen all night.

Remix Redux sign-ups are open. Link is to LJ, but the fest itself is taking place on AO3 this year. So much excitement! Sign-ups are open through the 31st, giving me plenty of time to poke at these two SPN fic and qualify in that fandom, too.

On that note, [community profile] dark_agenda are trying to figure out all the Non-White/Chromatic/Characters of Colour in the qualifying fandoms in preparation for Remix Redux.

[community profile] ladiesbigbang is doing a podfic round!
If you're an author who has written stories that falls under the definition of "woman-centric" (for the purposes of this challenge, that's considered something that predominantly/primarily features a woman/women) and would like to give permission to podficcers participating in the challenge, leave a comment here. Stories must be at least five hundred words; no upper limit.
