A Doctor Who primer by The A.V. Club. I know some of y'all are tempted to finally get into Who, and this is a great time to do so, with a new Doctor, a new companion, and a new showrunner. Reading the primer isn't necessary, but it does give you a little bit of background for those interested.

Assorted recs in Supernatural, Doctor Who, Chuck, Leverage, and Criminal Minds:

Words Get in the Way by [personal profile] epiphanyx7 is a Jo/Castiel fic set before 5x10. It's bittersweet, but the sort of bittersweet that heavy on the sweet and well worth the bitter.

One More Thing... by [livejournal.com profile] maskedfangirl is a short, fun fic with Dean and Castiel set early S5.

Fussy by [personal profile] sahiya is adorable Eleven & Amy fic.

Geronimo? by [livejournal.com profile] leelakin, art in which Eleven is adorable.

[community profile] intoabar has up a fic masterlist. In which two characters from different fandoms walk into a bar.

The Clusterfuck Job by [archiveofourown.org profile] kisahawklin, in which "Reid walks into a bar and meets... Hardison." Go, read! It is amazingness.

Chuck from the Burbank by [personal profile] kuwdora: This is a lot of why I love Chuck (the character; my show love has more reasons). To be honest, my Chuck love (and Chuck love) has kind of suffered this season, but this vid makes me want to give it another shot and at least see where the last couple episodes take me. This vid is fun, lighthearted, and what I'd hoped for from S3.

[livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon sign-ups have been extended through the 19th. I'd be interested, but a) I have too many plates in the air already and b) Remix Redux is soon. Instead I am going to keep an eye on it and happily throw myself at all the fic that is produced. I am curious about where to sign up for pinch hits, though. Something to poke at later.

[personal profile] polarisnorth has a rec post on [community profile] genspn full of awesome gen Supernatural goodness.

via [personal profile] entwashian: John Casey Presents: So You Want to Be a Deadly Spy?

Sweet Charity is having one last go-round. Sign-ups are open through April 7th. Another thing I'm not likely to sign up for, though I will probably bid on amazing, amazing things.

Kinda Busy by [livejournal.com profile] yeats is the Honey B/Gaga fic of MY HEART.

For those wondering, yes, I'm feeling a lot better now, and yes, embarrassment totally won out over misery. I'm still under the weather and am unlikely to be able to visit [personal profile] omnipresentdmat tomorrow, but I am so much better than before.

[livejournal.com profile] help_chile is in first rounds for auctioning fandom goods for donations.

It's an excellent cause, and I'm thinking about putting up a couple of short-shorts (at least 100 words, likely no more than 1,000 words). Here are some fandoms and pairings I'm considering offering:

In Chuck, Hikaru no Go, Psych, and Supernatural )

Is there anything else any of y'all would be interested in me adding to the list? I can't guarantee I'll add it, but I'm only going to write what I specify in my offer.

WIP meme first! A collection of six fic snippets I am currently working on in Supernatural, Chuck, and Discworld:

working title: Cas + Dean 4ever (or, a practical joke gone horribly, wonderfully wrong) )

--

The one in which Dean is not on board with being an angel condom, but discovers he is totally cool with angel ass sex, to his surprise and horror (I suspect this one may already be jossed by S5) )

--

The road trip fic, in which Jo, Ruby, and Sam steal the Impala to go have adventures, and Dean is stuck with a hippy van and two angels who turn into backseat drivers when they are not horrifying Dean by discussing angel sex )

--

Working title: A Hundred Restless Nights (Discworld) )

--

Working title: Chuck vs. the Zombie Apocalypse )

--

If you could have me write you anything, anything at all, what would you ask for?

--

Formspring keeps trying to eat my answers, but I am intrigued by this question thing. I'm opening up the floor to any questions anyone feels like asking. Curious about my favorite type of pie? My strange sleeping patterns? My favorite fic? How many children I want? Dude, the floor is open.

--

This may be a one-time thing, but I'm briefly opening comments back up on LJ. On the one hand, MALWARE. On the other, it's not like everyone most interested in that platform above all others is going to move over, and all my DW entries are open to those who don't want to risk computer STDs (and I mean, it's not like I don't hit that for the fic and vids, though I'm careful to use digital condoms). On the mutant hand, having all my comments in one place has been really, really awesome.

So, uh, no guarantees any which way? I am whimsical like that.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
In the end, I wrote four stories for Yuletide, including two pinch hits and one Treat.

Anticlockwise
All the Queen's Men (Johnno/Tony/Franz): Eton boys, top secret missions, and recreating Tony's Germany of the 30's.

Chuck vs. Bowling, Drugs, and the Unexpected Romance
Chuck (Chuck/Casey): The life of the world's only functional Intersect holds a number of problems and unexpected adventures. Chuck can deal with everything but the bowling.

On the Merits of Patience
Temeraire: On the journey to the New South Wales Colony, Temeraire must remind himself of the merits of patience.

Fleeting
Clover (Ran/Gingetsu): It's a long night, and Ran welcomes it.

Some musings about the fic, fandoms, and my Yuletide experience this year )

Three of my four Yuletide betas were found by Hippos in the Yuletide chat this year, and I think I betaed four fic through the same method (and volunteered for more). My biggest changes this year were hanging out in chat (highly recommended), pinch hitting, and making an attempt at the Yuletide Treats. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and if next year I am free around Yuletide season, I will try to do it all over again.

For those of you who participated, how did your Yuletide experiences go?

Server load is such that I can't respond to anything, and I really do need to head to bed, but here, have three insta-recs!

Further Adventures of Coraline (and Wybie, Too)
I got my Wybourne fic! This was the one I wanted most while staring at that mystery sign, telling myself I would be happy with whatever I received and yet whispering to myself, "Be Wybourne fic. Be Wybourne fic." And my Yuletide wish came true! *twirls*

I have already thrown it at [personal profile] lizfu, but I advise the rest of you to go read it, too! Wybourne has a cold, but that does not stop him from having ADVENTURES.

Of Sick Days And Star Trek Marathons
It is Stanford era Chuck/Bryce! Fic of their college days! Also, I think y'all are stalking my health entries or something, because this is the second fic wherein my favorite character contracts a cold. Fortunately, I am mostly over mine, but if I weren't, I would totally want a Chuck to bring me soup and tell me to watch Star Trek.

Applied Problem Solving
More Chuck/Bryce! So much wanting and so much having! I am totally blessed with extra fic this year. This one is an AU wherein Bryce is Chuck's handler. Let me repeat that: BRYCE IS CHUCK'S HANDLER. After reading the first scene, I had to stop and shriek at [personal profile] jmtorres in chat for a moment. It is that awesome.

And now, it is time for me to sleep. Don't kill the servers while I'm gone. *grin*

Y'all! *beams* I woke up this morning and--for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture--was feeling rather down. Then I checked my e-mail and made my happy wibbley face because three different people had reviewed three different fic of mine and [livejournal.com profile] wordsindreams sent me a fab virtual gift, totally lifting my day. And then, after a wonderful time in Ft Wayne seeing the amazing [personal profile] lizfu, I discovered that in my absence five more of you sent me snowflakes.

Seriously. [personal profile] oxoniensis, [personal profile] anna_luna, [personal profile] heathershaped, [personal profile] masterofmidgets, [personal profile] lizfu, and, once again, [livejournal.com profile] wordsindreams, thank you so much! I am smiling and smiling. You are all so ♥!

Some things I am recommending sight unseen (vids unwatched, fic unread) on the weight of other people's recs, past work, and/or THE SHEER AWESOME OF THE IDEA:

-Talitha's "Imma Be", a Leverage Hardison vid. I am still fighting with my computer over codecs and flash since the memory wipe, but I may have to just cave and watch this on the desktop. Talitha puts out quality work every time, and my love of Hardison knows no bounds. I guarantee you will love this if you know Leverage and have anything approaching decent taste.

-Trascendenza's "Reception in the Ball Pit": a Psych Gus/Shawn fic the summary of which is "The one where they get married." I ask you, is there any way this can be not utterly amazing? I don't think so. THE RECEPTION IS IN THE BALL PIT. It's in the title! (If there is not actually a reception in the ball pit, [personal profile] trascendenza, don't tell me. Just write it in within the next night, and not only will all be forgiven, I will never need to discover your secret plot to break my heart.)

-Seperis's "I Hate This Part (Right Here)". Why did no one tell me [livejournal.com profile] seperis had written Chuck fic? Why did I have to stumble across this idly surfing Delicious this morning? Internet, you are On Notice.

--

Some awesome things currently ongoing:

-Say it With Flowers International Postcard Project:
Are you a fan of Morgana and Gwen? Want to do something nice for the actresses to show your support and send a clear message to the producers that we'd like the ladies to have more screentime and their own plotlines in the next series?

Then join [livejournal.com profile] camelot_fleet, [livejournal.com profile] gwenmorganabbc, and [livejournal.com profile] drawmelot in an international postcard project to send flowers to Angel and Katie. It's easy! All you do is find or make a postcard (or two postcards, if you're ambitious) with flowers either in the picture, on the back, or mentioned in your note. Then print the address(es) listed below and mail the cards. We encourage you to find cards that represent your local area, just to show the girls how international their fanbase is.

-Fakenews Fanfic's Secret Santa still has wishes unclaimed. I seriously can't claim anymore. I will die. So y'all need to get over there and make off with the rest to save me from myself.

-The Beta Reader Finding Post for 3_ships for those of you who want to participate in some way, but didn't manage to sign up (or did, but want a sneak peek of awesome stories and love betaing).

Other links:

-Kialio's review of Princess and the Frog. (Liz, this is the review I mentioned when we discussed seeing this.)

-Winterlive's "Future Legend" from [livejournal.com profile] queenbitchfest sucked me in despite being in a fandom I don't know very well (American Idol), and it is well worth the ride. (God, there is something about anything relating to Adam Lambert that makes everything I type sound incredibly fun and dirty.) It's a 52,000 word apocafic. Let me say that again: APOCAFIC. 52,000 words of it! And it has got to be the most fabulously dressed apocalypse ever. Seriously. Read this.

-Why I have taken feministing's feed off my subscription list, and several other excellent resources to add instead.

-I want these shoes so fucking bad. They are red Doc Overdrives and only US$30.00. Clearance shoes are such a temptation.

-Bossymarmalade's how to comment on art when you're not an artist.

-Hth is posting all her SGA fic on AO3, and I don't know if I've ever remembered to recommend this, but 13 O'Clock is one of my favorite SGA fic ever. If SGA fandom had hundreds (or even dozens) more quality Rodney/Ronon fic like this, I would have never been drawn away from the fandom, or at least would have had to migrate back every year to consume all the delicious new fic in a gleeful frenzy.

I think those are enough links to throw at y'all in one post, don't you? *grin*

Still working on that Disney post. In the meanwhile, I am in need of company. Anyone online who has aim, yahoo messenger, gchat, or msn im who wants to chat about fandom things? Let me know, and I'll give you the corresponding screen name.

In other things, I ended up signing up for [profile] apocabigbang. I may have signed up for two for the same fandom, one in which Chuck attempts to avert the apocalypse and one in which he tries to survive after. I am not sure if this is because I hate myself, or because I am craving long Chuck fic like whoa lately.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Attempts to vid Chuck--specifically, attempts to vid Bryce Larkin--are actually quite soothing. This is possibly because no vidding is actually accomplished because vidding requires doing more than staring at his pretty, pretty face.

In other things, sleep still hasn't happened, bringing my average hours per night the past four days to something like three. If I do not sleep on the plane, I may find out if Disneyworld is the happiest place on Earth to have a sleep deprivation related meltdown. Even if the answer is yes, I'd rather forgo the whole experience.

The latest news on the Pretty Monster is there is no news. The local Fry's finally received the computer back from Sony. There were no details included as to what was wrong, no apparent attempts made to fix it, no pictures of the supposed damage as had been requested now weeks ago, and when the local Fry's cracked open the case, the motherboard was undamaged. On one hand, yay, they are no longer trying to demand $650 for a motherboard that I knew I hadn't dropped and damaged as Sony and corporate were trying to claim. On the other, what the hell were they doing with it for the past two and a half months? Was it sitting on the shelf collecting dust as they made up ways to try to gouge me for money? I have no clue.

It's edging toward five months since the time I originally gave it to them for the corrupted RAM problem (and got it back in a state of total meltdown). They've had possession of my laptop for over a quarter of the time I've owned it. Is their current endgame to keep it, give it back to me when the warranty runs out, and then demand money to fix it when I bring it back in because they've done absolutely no work on it?

I know I've said this before, but I will probably be repeating this for the rest of my life: Never buy from Fry's.

You may also want to avoid Sony in general or the Vaios in particular. If you absolutely must buy from Fry's, purchasing a warranty is apparently worthless. The warranty just means that when the computer inevitably breaks, you will give it to them and never get it back.

Now that I've riled myself up thinking about corporate evil again, it's time to make another stab at vidding. By which I mean staring, helplessly charmed, at Matt Bomer and his gorgeous face.

p.s. I know I still haven't done VVC vid recs, but while I'm on the topic of Chuck: [personal profile] jmtorres's Get Off is still just as amazing the 74562th time around.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
It's come to my attention that I am most productive fic-wise if I'm writing for fests or others, and that I work better on my original stuff when I have several fic going I'm excited about. This means I'm weighing trying Bangs again in addition to my current projects, most of which should be done by the end of the month (two Askewniverse fic, two Bones fic, assorted fic for FFFA, and Death Bingo fic in various states). Most of November will be eaten by [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [community profile] 3_ships, but I will need things to do after that.

[livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang looks fun. I'm trying to keep things manageable, but 10k in four months doesn't sound that bad, especially considering my [livejournal.com profile] third_monday was that long and written in a week. I mean, apoca-fic. [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn, if I worked on a Chuck fic for this, would you occasionally poke me about it?

I have until November 3rd to decide. If I don't write fic, I think I'll volunteer as an artist and make a vid. Because really, I can't say this enough times: apoca-fic.

Also intriguing are [livejournal.com profile] hermionebigbang (the world is missing a very long Hermione/Luna "Hermione takes over the wizarding world" or "Hermione was Sorted Hufflepuff" AU) and [livejournal.com profile] bau_bigbang (this will depend on my thoughts once I've watched the rest of Criminal Minds with [personal profile] bessemerprocess).

In my list of fen-related points of curiosity, how many vids out there are there for "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz? Are there any for Chuck? These are the things I wonder when I listen to my iTunes these days. Well, this, and how sick of Passion Pit people are going to be once I start that project.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Reasons why I should seriously consider giving vidding another try:

-Someone has to make a Criminal Minds vid to Swimming in the Flood and a Reid/Morgan vid to Moth's Wings.
-I can't find a copy of it on Youtube, but "Karma Police" as performed by Brown Derbies really, really wants to be a Chuck vid. Same with "98 Points" by Arlene Bishop for another Criminal Minds vid.
-I am feeling an urge to do something creative that would be a break from writing, and my icon inspiration for the year has already been used up.

Reasons why I should seriously reconsider giving vidding another try:

-Windows Movie Maker kills my soul, but it is not a hobby I can afford to put lots of money into
-No one should make a RayK/RayV/Fraser/Victoria vid to The Funeral of Hearts, especially not if the idea makes them laugh with inappropriate glee.
-Did I mention Windows Movie Maker? Because that cannot be mentioned enough. Kills. my. soul.

Thoughts?

Stolen from [personal profile] the_wanlorn:

Ask me about a pairing I have written (or haven't and you think I should write) and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, etc etc.

--

I've started two attempts at Chuck fic, both of which are probably too depressing to continue, at least one of which would likely be epic before it approached being finished. I blame [personal profile] oxoniensis (in a good way; I'm actually enjoying myself) for prompting me Chuck/Bryce, which apparently I can't write as happy right now. Maybe a third attempt will bring better results, but that will wait a while. I still have several things I need to finish.

Speaking of fic and finishing things, would anyone be wiling to beta a Psych fic for me this weekend? It's femslash and revolves around Morgan Conrad from the episode "Earth, Wind, and . . . Wait for It," so knowledge of that character is a must. I'm still tweaking the fic, so I probably won't send it until Friday.

Three instant recs:
Staking out my Stamping Ground [personal profile] deepad on race, racism, groups/audiences, and the intricacies and power levels navigated when giving and receiving gifts.

Poker Face Star Trek: Reboot, Kirk/Spock. Deliciously fitting and all kinds of epic. Hear that delighted shrieking? That would be me. SPOCK. *waves hands*

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For, Well, You Know The Rest Burn Notice/Chuck, Bryce Larkin/Michael Weston. This was written for me! Obviously, I need to have insomnia and bad days more often. (Or, well, not, but still.) This definitely made me smile like you wouldn't believe. Michael is very much himself, and Bryce is still a very young spy.

(I know that the last two don't really fit in tone with the first, but these are three things I didn't want lost in the linkspam post I've been slowly collating.)
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
In the past forty minutes or so, while staring at all the other stuff I should be working on and angsting over the fact that I've written only a couple hundred words of the original fic that I'm hoping will eventually turn itself into the semi-epic story I know it could be, I somehow . . . wrote 1200 words of Chuck fic for 'Take A Sad Song and Make It Better' Fest.

It's Bryce/Sarah and a bit Bryce/Chuck and a bit Chuck/Sarah (and a teensy bit Bryce/Chuck/Sarah). Anyone interested in looking it over briefly and making sure it actually makes sense?

All comments set to Dreamwidth for convenience. eta: Never mind, I can never decide. *changes*

I'm still way behind on answering comments on my previous post, there are at least a few things I want to add to it, and I haven't checked my flist or read list past a few entries, yet--all of which I will (I hope) get to sometime late tonight or on Monday.

In RL things, my usual computer is still deader than dead, and I am still having issues getting Japanese input. At this point, I am going to investigate the library's computers. Today is Mother's Day, and my mother is a Trekkie, so we're going to see Star Trek.

Have some links, some of which I just found, many of which I've been collecting a while, at least two of which I'm hoping Madelyn will look at it (like, say, past the very important first link, the prompts on the second link *not at all subtle*):

-THIS by us, and if you only click one link, I hope you choose this one. It's not going to make you smile like many of the rest of the links, but hey, those are always there for later, while this is for something going on right now that really needs our support. THIS is a work of protest at the Minnesota School of Dance in response to racist attitudes and an unsafe environment for engaging with the department's issues. (If I don't sound coherent enough, there's a better explanation here.) There's a petition here, and I would really recommend you check out the whole blog and work.
-'Take A Sad Song and Make It Better' Fest (One of the most recent things on my read list! I can only hope the later posts are all as awesome)
-[community profile] bakeitup is having a brownies recipe contest. If nothing else, whee, brownies recipes.
-[personal profile] oxoniensis's breathing by numbers (Chuck, Bryce/Chuck, a 5k coda to the season 2 finale that is made of joy and rainbows.)
-Mount Athos Treasures On View To Women After 1,000 Years (How cool is that? If only I were closer to France.)
-I'm sure a lot of you have already seen this, but this is a really awesome, easy explanation of OpenIDs.
-Avatar/Viacom/Zazzle update on the Racebending products that were removed and are now restored.
-Lovelace– The Origin (I think I saw this through [personal profile] brownbetty a few days ago? It is an origin comic for Ada Lovelace as a super hero!)
-Tweenbots!

Oh, bronchitis and sinus infection, my old friends. Know that I love Amoxicillin more than you.

Probably shouldn't have waited ten days to see the doctor.

I woke up to a nice surprise, though! Last night, I quickly scribbled some down some Chuck fic that I didn't want to forget and thought I had maybe two pages or so of notes in huge handwriting. And okay, it was still huge handwriting, but more like five pages. We'll see what that becomes when typed once I finally am done with the two fic I either owe immediately or am actually way, way, way past due on. ([personal profile] mona, you have all my apologies. You are probably tired of hearing them.)

I think I'm going to maybe drop out of one of the two Bangs I am a part of (and I am waaay behind on my wordcount for the Merlin one), because Remix Redux is coming up, and that is my favorite exchange ever to write for. I received almost no feedback, but it was so much fun.

Speaking of! All you Pundits and Politics RPF people: They're considering letting in RPFandoms as qualifying fandoms this year. Go write in your vote if you're interested. There are a lot of you I would love to see participating. I'll only be signing up for pundits RPF (because one, I am not unlocking my politics RPF, though I will be the rest and two, I'm not writing for politifandom anymore, as most of you have probably been able to tell), but I would love to see more added.

According to [livejournal.com profile] musesfool:
Voting will be open until the weekend - at least Saturday evening, possibly even Sunday night (I have a first communion party to go to on Sunday afternoon) - so please do pimp the poll out.

So yes, please do!
