I never remember when femslash multifandom fests are. Never. So it is a good thing I have you, circle!

I have just signed up for [community profile] femslash11, though I may edit my comment to add more wildcard fandoms in the two hours before the sign up deadline is over. I have so many fandoms! How is one supposed to remember them all? Maybe I will obsessively refresh the sign up page to see if anyone requests a wildcard fandom I can write but hadn't thought to add. And go back and forth over whether I am capable of writing The Good Wife another dozen times or two.

(On the one hand, my love of Kalinda is enormous. On the other hand, they are all lawyerly (except for my darling Kalinda) or political and meanwhile I am stuck just wanting to draw hearts around Kalinda's face. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A FIC OUT OF THAT. I have a feeling it would consist entirely of, "Kalinda was the most awesome bad-ass there ever was. The end." or "And then Alicia told Kalinda how much she loved her, because Kalinda is awesome and no one would ever make her sad FUCK YOU CANON KALINDA IS HAPPY FOREVER THE END." You see my dilemma here.)

So yes, I think we know what I'm doing until midnight.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
An admission, finally, because no matter how much I hope I will get over this, it's time to face up to the fact it won't happen any time soon. I'm having difficulty (in which, to be honest, "difficulty" itself is almost a euphemism) replying to comments, talking to most people on aim or gchat, using the phone, or chatting with more than one of the few people with whom I can talk at once. (We're not even going to go into leaving the house.) E-mail, at least, is mostly working, if I tell myself I only have to reply with a few lines, and anything past that is just icing.

I'm not saying this so I can get "Oh, poor Tuesday :(" comments or internet hugs, not that I don't appreciate knowing that all of y'all tend towards a most awesome sympathy or empathy when it comes to this sort of issue, rather than automatically assuming some bid for attention. Some of you already know that I'm currently working on finding a medication that works for me, and I'm hoping I'll get there at some point, but right now, I'll settle for making it a little easier on myself and admitting that no, I won't be replying to all of the comments. I may not even be replying to most or some of the comments. Mostly, I want each of you to know: it's really, really not you; it is most definitely me and my brain chemistry.

With any luck, with this out of the way, and with less (even self-created) pressure on, I'm hoping I'll be able to post again, or write fic with the hope of posting again, or at least contemplate either without having to go lie down and tell myself to breathe.

Currently, I'm leaving comments on on this entry, but I may lock them for any (even irrational) reason. This entry is currently unlocked, but that may change. Hell, don't be surprised if I panic at how awkward this entry feels and it is suddenly magically gone from one minute to the next.

--

Some less awkward-feeling things:

• My sinus infection is slowly getting better, emphasis on slowly, but my wrist is pretty much recovered at this point.
Porn Battle is open and has lots of interesting prompts. This time around it's open for eleven days. Maybe I will finish something for it this time around.
Festivids has gone live. I haven't had a chance to watch much yet, but the two vids I have seen were amazing. And to think, there are well over a hundred more left to watch!
• I've recently taken up Minecraft. It's still in beta, so not only is it discounted, but every time Notch updates with new trees, mobs, and recipes, it's like Christmas. It's like if Legos and Dwarf Fortress got together and had an adorable baby that made friends with the undead. Just so you know, you should consider this Penny Arcade comic and the one proceeding it both a dire promise and a warm warning. Also: this update has cake & squid!
• Speaking of the above, if you play Minecraft and want me to help build or mine you things, let me know what server you are on? I tend to wander the servers when I am not playing on [personal profile] the_wanlorn's or a server full of adorable teenagers. (Actually, I do not know for a fact they are teenagers, but man, do I ever suspect.)
• Expect to see this game in my next The A-Team fic.
• I received lovely cards from [personal profile] love and [personal profile] talitha78 over the holiday season. Sorry for not thanking you both sooner. Each seriously made my day. ♥
• Anyone have any suggestions for a reliable place to back up my fic list if Yahoo can't find anyone to sell Delicious?
• Even though I've been reading this whole time, I've missed y'all. ♥
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
For Christmas, I was given some lovely hand-knit gloves (that match some lovely hand-knit socks [personal profile] the_wanlorn already gave me) and The A-Team from my girlfriend and my bff respectively. That my girlfriend and my bff had the chance to meet and actually got on well was probably my favorite part of the last couple weeks. (One might even say they got on too well. I suspect they were secretly hatched from the same pod. Case in point: fries in shakes. Who but pod people could harass me with their love of that abominable combination?)

My least favorite part was probably the plague my girlfriend gave me after blaming it on me. Seriously, all of the gifts I could do without, having my traditional been traveling cold and my girlfriend's wicked strong sinus infection is super high up there. (But totally worth it in return for [personal profile] the_wanlorn visiting.)

In news of my other beloved winter festivities, I know I am way behind on replying to comments, adding full author's notes, etc for Yuletide. When I am better, I totally plan to get to that. Something else I am shamefully late on: directing y'all to my Yuletide gift, a Kalinda/Alicia The Good Wife fic called Bad Ideas Are The Best Ones. It is adorable. There is drunk kissing, and sleeping on the couch, and friends being friends and something more. I am delighted by its existence.

For those curious what I wrote who haven't raided my AO3 page, this year, I wrote two assignments and two treats:

This is (Never) How It Goes
Fandom: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Summary: There was much they left unsaid these days.
Notes: Bastila/Revan femslash, 1088 words, teen. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was to get this as my main assignment. Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Friends Don't Let Friends Suffer Alone
Fandom: Archie Comics
Summary: The problem with friends is that they plot against you.
Notes: Betty/Veronica, 1955 words, teen. This may be my favorite pinch hit ever. Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Softer
Fandom: A Softer World
Summary: Eustace says, "You can never go home again." No one listens.
Notes: Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Maybe Death's an Adventure, But Who Wants to Wait?
Fandom: A Softer World
Summary: "Is it dangerous?" she asks, always asks, and smiles.
Notes: Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

--

And now it's time for me to go fall down again. Suffice it to say, I may be keeping Luden's and Sprite in business by my purchases alone.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Dear yuletide writer! I am sure you have given up on my writing a letter by now, and I think I am giving up on writing one myself. If you do need any sort of additional information, I will be perfectly happy to write back to the mods as a go-between, but I really do believe in the "optional details are optional" part of yuletide. The thing I would love most of all is for you to enjoy writing the fic.

--

For my own yuletide efforts, I've managed a canon review and figured out the format of my fic, plus a general mental outline. Here's hoping I manage to finish the fic itself before the drive down to Florida this time.

--

For my own reference, fic I want to/ought to work on soon, in no particular order:
• Yuletide
• Gambling debts of honor ([personal profile] fan_eunice, you don't mind if yours, uh, goes over 100 words, right?)
• At least one of the ten A-Team fic in my wip folder
• The SPN S6 AU (I'm not allowed to watch S6 until it's done. I didn't finish it for the big bang, but surely I will finish it by the hiatus. Surely. eep.)
• B.A./Murdock kink meme fic. (I am not allowed to write these until I finish one of the others. Repeat, self: I am not allowed to write these until I finish one of the others.)
• Warehouse 13 femslash.
• Prizes (Even if I never put time limits on my flash fic prizes, some of them were promised a shamefully long time ago.)

--

Before my wrist healed enough that I could write again, I grabbed a ton of books from the library and am now in the habit of using the interlibrary loan, too. While I have a number of books I've yet to make my way through, if anyone has any recommendations, I would love to take them.

Currently, I'm enjoying The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and I recently returned I Want to Go Home! and Over Sea, Under Stone. Gordon Korman was as delightful and amusing as expected, but I'm really hoping Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising is more engaging and entertaining a read than its predecessor. At some point, I'll type up a good chunk of my read list and impressions.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Between that J2 story, that bandom story, and Hobbs's latest (disability) fail, I have to wonder if there is something in the water this week. That's not even going into that horrific and triggering story dealing with child abuse and sexual assault.

--

I have a bunch of thoughts on warnings and labels, lately, and their usefulness as tools for navigating toward or away from things depending on needs, but I think they need to simmer longer. I do want to point out that I read every comment on my post about warnings and triggers (contains triggering content for sexual assault) (and have come to the conclusion that what I mean and what different people in fandom mean by certain labels can be vastly different). I know I said ahead of time that I probably wouldn't be able to respond to all comments, but wow, how true that actually was. Point being: I definitely was (and am) listening, even if I haven't done a lot of replying.

Recently, I found an old copy of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and was curious if it would run on Windows 7. The opening screen is a sea of black with two outlines of tan boxes set in the middle, but once I click the right button, everything runs fine. I haven't made it very far (world domination will never be mine at the rate I am going), but I am kind of in love with the guilt-inducing quit menu.

(Other things I love: tvtropes using a modified version at the bottom of its page on Alpha Centauri.)

Yahoo is once again withholding some of my comment notifications for long periods of time. Why do you do this to me, Yahoo?

At some point, when I am feeling much better, I want to talk to y'all about In Plain Sight, which [personal profile] bessemerprocess once told me was amazing and which [personal profile] the_wanlorn finally convinced me to Netflix. At the least, let me tell you this now: they were totally right! But yes, an actual review to come at some point later.

Less than thirteen hours until the author reveals for Remix Redux. If you want to post recs (or just comment) pre-reveal, you'll probably want to do so soon.

--

Taken from many people on my dreamroll and network:
If you could remix any of my stories from any of my fandoms, which would it be and how would you remix it?

Also, a note for anyone who is curious, my remix/pod-fic/transformative works policy is on my profile, but here it is again:
If it's not already clear by my writing fic, I am a major fan of transformative works! I don't believe you need my permission to pod fic my stories, remix them, draw art from them, or otherwise engage with them, but you definitely have it! If you'd like to send me a link to your work, though, I would be delighted. For direct translations, I have several older stories I am currently reworking for a variety of reasons, so I would prefer you ask me first.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
I am torn between wondering why I'm awake and wondering why, of all the different fic I've poked at tonight, none of them have been my lgbtfest. I think I may be up for the day regardless.

Handcuffs fic gained another six hundred words. I should probably figure out at least a working title for it. Two other fic gained more plot and a few sentences each. ~Sam and Castiel's Amazing Adventure~ possibly gained another anchor scene, depending on whether I'm going with the switch to Castiel/Sam and Dean/Gabriel or sticking with the original idea. We'll--see how that goes.

Today will probably be spent working on a number of writing projects while waiting for Doctor Who to air. With any luck, some of those will be fic with actual deadlines attached.

Helping thdancingferret (LJ):
In order to raise money for Chris, we will be listing specific items up for auction that people can bid on. They will be posted by categories: Food Items, Graphics, Art/Knitting Items, and Fiction. If you would like to donate a story, knitting, art or food items, please leave a post in those sections. (We are trying to model this after the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auction.)

The timeframe for us is short, so we are opening up the donating of items IMMEDIATELY. Donations by sellers will close May 29, 2010 at 11:59pm EST. After that we will open the items up to bidding May 30, 2010 at 12:01am EST. Because Chris' need is urgent, we are going to do a Lighning Round for these items, closing all auctions on June 2, 2010 at midnight EST.

Edited to add: Other ideas for Sandy include: Music she'd like (playlists?); books she'd like that can be Kindle-achieved easily; vids for her. TV she hasn't seen! Etc! Anything we can do to help deliver fannish fun.

I have a behind the scenes post on my writing process/stuff that didn't make it into "The (Mostly Accidental) Courtship of Dean Winchester" in the works, but I'm still coding. It boils down to: all my best lines and ideas are actually stolen wholesale from [personal profile] jmtorres, who is one of the biggest reasons I finish fic. Maybe it will be ready tomorrow!

This is Tomorrow (the getaway driver remix): Donna's new temp job leads to adventure, in which Donna and Christina have incredible chemistry and I love Donna's brain.

The Bees, The Bees (The Five Times Donna Met the Doctor Without Realising It Remix): Donna goes looking for trouble (and finds it). Eee, Donna, with lots of awesome old school Who references.

Without a Chance to Pray (The Ceiling Cat Remix): In which Castiel is turned into a kitten and remains very much himself. I think my heart grew three sizes reading this story.

An Existential Crisis [the retcon remix]: This story is creepy and wonderful, in which Mary Winchester keeps her promises.

Above Us Only Sky (The Golden Age Remix): This is absolutely gorgeous, in which Anna is trapped between two worlds.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Remix Redux is open, so everyone who entered should have an e-mail with a story link by now.

My remixer is a genius (A GENIUS) and I am still laughing and wanting to draw hearts around Sam's and Gabriel's (and my remixer's) faces. My remixer chose to remix Dean Won't Be Your Angel Condom: If Any Be Blameless (The Condom Fatigue Remix). It is Sam and Gabriel (and the Impala) and utter and complete hilarity. It makes me very, very happy that my fic could've inspired this.

Anyone who hasn't been involved in my own remixing process (and hasn't checked my related works tab; I'm going by the honor system here) is eligible for a spot the obvious Tuesday guessing game. If you win, you get 500 words or less (I'm hoping--I can't keep writing 7k+ stories for tiny!fic) for whatever prompt you'd like with any of my previously written characters or ships in Supernatural, Psych, Doctor Who, and Chuck (through S2; no spoilers thereafter, please).

interesting. no, wait, the other thing: tedious. by [personal profile] ciderpress, in which [personal profile] ciderpress lays out some really good points on Glee, white privilege, and hipster racism.
This is what happens when people steeped in white privilege make jokes about racism with the victims of racism, rather than the racists, the butt of the jokes. This is why people steeped in white privilege don't really know how to make "jokes" about race that non-white/chromatic/poc think are funny. This is what happens when apologists try to wave away critique of race issues in real life, in entertainment and pretend there isn't a problem, pretend it doesn't contribute to society, to culture, to our every day lives. Racist speech in the guise of jokes becomes okay. Racism becomes okay, racism becomes normal, ordinary.

[community profile] tenwomen looks incredibly cool. "The Challenge: produce 10 creative works (via writing, fanart, vidding, or any other medium) in which the central main or narrative character identifies as female." I think I could at the very least make half that, with my next Ruby project, finishing that Devil Wears Prada fic, the Jordan Todd on vacation with the BAU femslash I started as a drabble for [community profile] dark_agenda (which, yeah, dropped the ball there), the yearly Juliet femslash, and one or two other things I have lying around.
