I love all of the fandoms and characters I'm requesting, so if one section seems longer or shorter than another, it's due to how much I had to say, not how much I love the request. They're ordered in reverse alphabetical order, and there's a fair amount of copy-pasting from previous letters. They are all fandoms of my heart, and I'm excited at the possibility of receiving any of them.

Also, this letter is super long, so please don't feel obligated to read it all. If you already have an idea of what you want to do from just the AO3 requests, go for it! This is all to (I hope) make it easier on you, and I am a big believer in optional details being optional. There being fic for my fandoms will make me happy. Everything else is icing for delicious, delicious cake.

This year I'm requesting a video game fandom, a quest game, and a machinomic: Dwarf Fortress (Any), Rubyquest (Red, Ruby), and The Scumthorpe Files (any). If you're really not feeling the request you matched on, here's hoping you know one of the others! I'm including links for where you can find and/or acquire them all.

A note: If we matched on Dwarf Fortress, you may notice I've received Dwarf Fortress fic in Yuletides past. Please don't feel like you have to compete with them! I love DF a lot, and there is not a lot out there for it, so while I love everything I've received so far, I'm sure whatever you write me will be a delight to me, too!

Fair warning: this letter will contain spoilers, so if you haven't played or read something and want to go into it with fresh eyes, you'll want to skip that section.

If you've made it this far, I'd like to thank you for participating in Yuletide. This is my favorite yearly challenge, and I am ridiculously excited for and about it.

My number one hope for my gift fic is that my writer has a good time with it, so let me emphasize again that I'm just happy that there will be more fic for one of these fandoms. This monster of a letter was mostly an excuse to enthuse about tiny fandoms, and I truly hope it doesn't put you off or make you worry about whether you can make any of the prompts work. Whatever you end up writing, I'm hoping it's something you enjoy about the fandom and have fun writing.

Have a happy Yuletide! ♥

If you're really not feeling the request you matched on, here's hoping you know one of the others! I'm including links for where you can find and/or acquire them all.

Also, these are almost all fandoms I've either requested in other ongoing exchanges (DF & DS) or have received fic for in Yuletides past (DF & LLtQ). Please don't feel like you have to compete with anyone past or present! I love these fandoms a lot, and there is not a lot out there for them, so while I loved everything I've received so far, I'm sure whatever you write me will be a delight to me, too!

I love all of the fandoms and characters I'm requesting, so if one section seems longer or shorter than another, it's due to how much I had to say, not how much I love the request (see: having requested "Any" for LLtQ and writing about each character possibly matched on). This year I'm asking for four video game fandoms: Hatoful Kareshi/Hatoful Boyfriend (Tosaka Hiyoko|Hunter-Gatherer Girl, Iwamine Shuu), Long Live the Queen (any), Magical Diary (Ellen Middleton, Hieronymous Grabiner, Main Character), and Monster Loves You! (Spine Doctor). If you're really not feeling the request you matched on, here's hoping you know one of the others! They're all fairly short games and all available on Steam. They're also (in my fairly biased opinion) all lots of fun!

General Likes:

I'm happy with gen or romance. If you go the romance route, I'm good with f/f, f/m, m/m, poly, and ace.

I like both long and short fic, so go where the story leads you!

A list of tropes and themes I adore include AUs (modern, regency, historic, magic, college, cyberpunk, steampunk, canon divergence, everyone lives, end of the world, all the AUs), arranged marriage & marriage of convenience, soulbonds & soulmates, pining, first times, apocalypse, worldbuilding, friends to lovers, IN SPACE, family, found family, friendship, political machinations, intrigue, time travel, mysteries, time loops, didn't know they're dating, magic, ghosts, shenanigans, drunken shenanigans, woke up married, prank wars, wooing, extended courtships, whirlwind romance, political negotiations, alliances of convenience, training, slice of life, character study, plot, pwp, developing relationships/friendships, character has the chance to re-do/relive events, aliens, robots, mermaids, monsters, dragons, reincarnation, pregnancy/adoption/kid fic, matchmaking, mysteries, isolation, trapped together, comedy of errors, competence, communication, codas, future fic, fusions - this list could go on forever, so I'll finally stop myself here.

Feel free to go as dark or fluffy or creepy or cracked out as your heart desires. I'd prefer a happy, hopeful, bittersweet, or ray of light in the distance ending, even if it's just a where there's life there's hope situation.

Triggers:

Literally the only things that could keep me from reading a gift fic are non-con and rapeplay.

Some General DNWs:

Because I listed AUs above, I feel like I should mention there are AUs I'm just not into anymore (though I have enjoyed some fic with them in the past) - slavery, serial killer, mafia, prison, and sex worker AUs.

I'm not really into infidelity (poly or marriage only as an arrangement is fine! I just prefer everyone involved to know and be okay with what's going on), underage (sixteen or up is fine), incest (my exceptions are not in any of these fandoms), or eye trauma.

As said above, I'd like even my unhappy endings to come with a grain of hope, so please no permanent major character death unless otherwise indicated. I'll go into this more (including talk of canon character deaths) in each fandom section, though I'll note here that there are options for where I'll happily roll with some character death in three of the four fandoms.

It's 3 a.m., but I'm sick and can't sleep, so here, have a reveals post! I wrote nine fic in eight fandoms, including three pinch hits. I had a lot of fun writing them and am super excited about actually finishing and posting fic again. It has been a while.

All These Wakeful Hours

Fandom: Ruby Quest
Summary: Ruby could've done a lot worse for a player than /tg/. In which there are malevolent fish, mysterious admirers, and far too many deaths waiting around every. corner.
Notes: Red/Ruby and Tom/Ruby when they show up, but mostly gen. 12205 words. Teen and up.

I had entirely too much fun with this one. Like, cackling gleefully to myself while plotting terrible things full-out joy. Full notes at the fic. (Yes, niq, this is that fic.) Also, if you're not already familiar with Ruby Quest, take this as a rec to go read it.

We Are Not Close Enough Friends For These To Be Benefits

Fandom: Archie Comics
Summary: Jughead wants a nap. Reggie has other plans.
Notes: Reggie/Jughead. 1620 words. Teen and up. Maybe I will be breaking my no sequels rule for this one. Full notes at the fic.

The Continuing Adventures of Dr. Bright: Doctor, Scientist, Cosplayer

Fandom: SCP Foundation
Summary: Reasons Dr. Bright needs a keeper. (And reasons having a keeper won't help.) In which Bright goes through assistants like others go through tissue, there is desperate spending of extra D-Class resources in response to upcoming budget reviews, and Bright has a doctorate but is still not that Doctor.
Notes: Dr. Bright gen. 1988 words. Teen and up. Dr. Bright may be a terrible person, but you have to admit he knows how to have a good time. Full notes at the fic (and, er, in the comments, because I am terrible at remembering to update with end notes).

Growth Cycle

Fandom: The Sims
Summary: Hydrangea doesn't like kids, but her daughter's growing on her.
Notes: OFC/OFC, but really mostly mother-daughter family gen. 2494 words. Teen and up. Entirely too many things in this came straight from my own games, highlighting weird Sims behavior and my own awful skills at managing a household. Full notes at the fic.

Echo Reply

Fandom: Almost Human
Summary: Dorian claims he hasn't gone rogue, but what else could all these flowers mean? In which John is concerned, Dorian is exasperated, and there will be no more talk of feelings.
Notes: Dorian/John. 1295 words. Teen and up. When added to the Archie fic (or just taken on its own), further proof of my love for the "doesn't know they're dating/on a date" trope. Full notes at the fic.

These Bonds Pulled Tight

Fandom: Pet Shop of Horrors
Summary: Porn. Omigosh, porn.
Notes: D/Leon. 1146 words. Explicit. Dub-con. Trying to write fuck-or-die is apparently impossible for me, so this is likely the closest I will achieve. I meant to change the summary placeholder and enact all the changes my beta suggested, but I have yet to achieve either of these. I figure y'all are stuck with that summary, but maybe in the next week or two I will stop having weird anxiety feelings attached to this and make the other changes. We'll see. I'm determined it will happen eventually. (Sorry, treat recipient! :( My other option was not posting it, but I opted on the side of more gifts rather than less.)

A Gentlelady and Her Books

Fandom: Beauty and the Beast (Disney)
Summary: Adam likes to read, but there are only so many books a person can read before cabin fever sets in. A role reversal B&B AU.
Notes: Prince Adam/Belle. 757 words. General Audiences. I want to re-watch this movie now.

Chi's First Christmas

Fandom: Chi's Sweet Home
Summary: In which Chi discovers Christmas cake and presents.
Notes: Gen. 546 words. General audiences. My love for this manga is boundless. My only regret is that I did not have the time to write everything I wanted and make fan art to include in this. (And I still did not have time to write everything I wanted!)

We Last to Raise Our Hands

Fandom: Ruby Quest
Summary: Bella didn't volunteer.
Notes: Gen. 100 words. Teen and up. The whole YuMaDrIn thing was a nice excuse to write a short Bella piece.

All in all, I had a lot of fun writing this Yuletide, though I did not manage everything I hoped to. Considering that much of it was done while on vacation (though Ruby Quest snagged me much sooner), I will have to settle for NYRC during my free time this year for the rest of it.

And now it's 4 a.m., so time once more to try for sleep.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
I was pretty sure that I was not going to participate in Yuletide at all this year, what with my internet presence being negligible at best, not to mention my never having finished any of the NYRC fic I started (or published any fic this year whatsoever). Now, though, it's nearing time for my yearly retreat to FL with my mother, and I decided if I finished up all of the important things beforehand, I'd allow myself to write treats.

There are a couple more things to tie up, but I've gone through the DYW spreadsheet and several of the challenges, and eek, I am super excited about writing fic again. If I have the time, I am definitely writing for three people, maybe more.

Who all of y'all are doing Yuletide this year or participating in some other fashion? I would love to read your DYW letters if you have any. The cockles of my heart are currently full of fannish and holiday enthusiasm.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
This year has been kind of ridiculous for managing anything fannish whatsoever past that tiny bit of Homestuck fan art. And no, tumblr did not eat me - I haven't been updating there, either. /o\

--

Some vague life update stuff:

-I took a class and maybe now I will have a new career! It is an exciting possibility, and I am looking forward to change.

-My health has continued to be weird, but I promise I will update y'all if I ever get answers past, "Do this new thing, and then come back to give us more blood to test. [rinse, repeat.]" On the plus side, even if we never figure it out, at worst I'll be stuck with discomfort and/or inconvenience only occasionally. Yay?

-My mum is finally recovering from her major surgery! This is pretty neat, as it means she can finally leave the house for short periods without my following after her like an overly concerned mama hen worried her baby chick's going to trip and need to go back to the hospital for more surgery. Also, my mum finally gets her dog back, even if he must now adjust to the weirdness of coming to me for all his needs.

-I finally have my main computer back! It took a great deal of effort not to cling to and cuddle it, crooning softly, "Never leave me," and generally act like a total creeper to a piece of hardware. There is just something about one's main desktop that cannot be replaced.

--

Some fannish stuff:

-I am totally failing at doing a NYR for my original Yuletide assignment and am resigned to just never finishing this story. Do any of y'all have a story prompt you saw (all those months ago) and secretly thought, "I hope Tuesday is assigned *that*"? Or maybe you want to take this opportunity to scrawl through that huge, awesome spreadsheet and convince me to write [insert fandom here]? Seriously, I am no good with spreadsheets and am just making sad, desperate faces at google docs and hoping someone will swoop in to save me.

-I seriously wavered over whether to do Five Days of Tuesday this year (obviously that did not happen) and realized I have tons of near-finished short fic. Unfortunately, a lot of it is on other computers. Is there anyone out there still interested in A-Team fic who'd be willing to handhold me through actually finishing the last few hundred words?

-I promise I'll eventually finish that Avengers Valdemar AU. A year late, maybe, but it will happen.

-Is there good Downton Abbey fic? I'm partway through S2 and am curious. It seems like a hard fandom to write in, but the world is full of wonders and wonderful writers.

-I'm finding that I'm somewhat pining for my time in SPN fandom. I have little interest in catching up in the show right now, and I can't bring myself to work on anything in that wip folder, but most of my personal experiences with it were pretty great and the people well worth missing. ♥

-Homestuck: is anyone caught up with this and willing to answer a couple questions for me? I briefly stopped reading and am still uncertain whether I want to get back to it sooner or much, much later.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Yuletide brought me a delightful Dwarf Fortress fic, Earthseer, Diamondsea. Summary: "A new day dawns on the newest outpost of the dwarven fortress of Idbërûl. Of course, it's only a matter of time before misfortune falls upon Reg Dorenallas and his companions..." Because of course this is Dwarf Fortress, and any other outcome just wouldn't be Fun. *grin*

If you're familiar with DF, you should definitely check it out!

And if you're not familiar with Dwarf Fortress, you should give it a shot, then check out my gift fic. I should note the fic itself has spoilers if you've not reached that game aspect, but then again, maybe you're like me and enjoy reading the wiki and forums to read about all the adventures your fortresses fail too soon to reach. (Stupid massive rampaging skeletal goats and tantrum spirals from everyone's horror at accidental baby shields and troglodytes trying to make homes in the living room.) (Seriously, though, it is an awesome game and a great fic.)

--

I am down in FL again, as per my mum and my holiday tradition. It is a nice, laidback time as per usual, even with my allergies going haywire. Apparently I am missing a blizzard, but at least there will be plenty of snow left to return to.

Has anyone been to the new Fantasyland? We are planning on checking it out on either Friday or Saturday depending on the second snowstorm forecasts, but I'm curious if there's anything in particular we should experience or keep an eye out for. My excitement is reaching pretty epic levels over this.

Sure, Disney may be full of shameless capitalism and consumerism, but it is also full of happiness to try to keep you and your money coming back. Also, there is nothing like seeing tiny children make :O faces of delighted amazement and remember seeing the same on your siblings' faces at that age.

--

I hope you are all having a delightful Boxing Day! How goes your week?

Yuletide!

For Christmas, I was given some lovely hand-knit gloves (that match some lovely hand-knit socks [personal profile] the_wanlorn already gave me) and The A-Team from my girlfriend and my bff respectively. That my girlfriend and my bff had the chance to meet and actually got on well was probably my favorite part of the last couple weeks. (One might even say they got on too well. I suspect they were secretly hatched from the same pod. Case in point: fries in shakes. Who but pod people could harass me with their love of that abominable combination?)

My least favorite part was probably the plague my girlfriend gave me after blaming it on me. Seriously, all of the gifts I could do without, having my traditional been traveling cold and my girlfriend's wicked strong sinus infection is super high up there. (But totally worth it in return for [personal profile] the_wanlorn visiting.)

--

In news of my other beloved winter festivities, I know I am way behind on replying to comments, adding full author's notes, etc for Yuletide. When I am better, I totally plan to get to that. Something else I am shamefully late on: directing y'all to my Yuletide gift, a Kalinda/Alicia The Good Wife fic called Bad Ideas Are The Best Ones. It is adorable. There is drunk kissing, and sleeping on the couch, and friends being friends and something more. I am delighted by its existence.

For those curious what I wrote who haven't raided my AO3 page, this year, I wrote two assignments and two treats:

This is (Never) How It Goes
Fandom: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Summary: There was much they left unsaid these days.
Notes: Bastila/Revan femslash, 1088 words, teen. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was to get this as my main assignment. Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Friends Don't Let Friends Suffer Alone
Fandom: Archie Comics
Summary: The problem with friends is that they plot against you.
Notes: Betty/Veronica, 1955 words, teen. This may be my favorite pinch hit ever. Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Softer
Fandom: A Softer World
Summary: Eustace says, "You can never go home again." No one listens.
Notes: Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

Maybe Death's an Adventure, But Who Wants to Wait?
Fandom: A Softer World
Summary: "Is it dangerous?" she asks, always asks, and smiles.
Notes: Full notes at the fic when I get around to that.

--

And now it's time for me to go fall down again. Suffice it to say, I may be keeping Luden's and Sprite in business by my purchases alone.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Every year, as most longtime readers well know, I spend the week around Christmas in Florida with my mom. The one time I've missed it in the past two decades was when I was in the midst of my study abroad. While I'm not altogether fond of the beach, the warm air is great for my asthma, and listening to the crashing waves is immensely relaxing. The past three years have been just the two of us, but it's been wonderful to spend the time together. We're fairly laid back wrt vacations, so there are no intense time tables, no blame for being late anywhere, no unhappiness over someone having a headache and spending the day in bed.

Usually, I spend the 24th writing treats, picking up last-minute pinch hits, or volunteering to beta in yulechat, but this year, between the weather, needing to get back to IN in time to meet my girlfriend (SO MUCH EXCITEMENT), and going to Disney for Christmas Eve, I may or may not have internet access when Yuletide opens. I also may or may not have time to upload the two treats I've written, but those can just be uploaded as regular gifts if need be.

To my writer(s): I am sure I will absolutely love whatever you've written, and will try to read and respond at the first opportunity. Don't worry if that's not until the 26th or 27th.

Even though I've spent most of this week with a headache (the all day in bed example was, sadly, not entirely figurative), I've had a fabulous time. I went swimming, soaked my aching hip in the hot tub, walked on the beach, had delicious gourmet ice cream, survived a trip to the mall, read several books, written a couple treats and a pinch hit, and spent a lot of time with my mom. I'm especially excited for the discovery that I am no longer ridiculously allergic to chlorine, which means we'll be able to go to a water park tomorrow.

Don't get me wrong--I'll be glad to return home to my cat, my comfortable bed, and my more reliable internet access. I'll especially be glad to be returning home just in time for [personal profile] the_wanlorn to visit me, which is pretty much the best Christmas gift ever. But I can honestly say that, even with random minor annoyances and the fact that I am as yet not recovered from various injuries, this has been a pretty awesome week.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Dear yuletide writer! I am sure you have given up on my writing a letter by now, and I think I am giving up on writing one myself. If you do need any sort of additional information, I will be perfectly happy to write back to the mods as a go-between, but I really do believe in the "optional details are optional" part of yuletide. The thing I would love most of all is for you to enjoy writing the fic.

--

For my own yuletide efforts, I've managed a canon review and figured out the format of my fic, plus a general mental outline. Here's hoping I manage to finish the fic itself before the drive down to Florida this time.

--

For my own reference, fic I want to/ought to work on soon, in no particular order:
• Yuletide
• Gambling debts of honor ([personal profile] fan_eunice, you don't mind if yours, uh, goes over 100 words, right?)
• At least one of the ten A-Team fic in my wip folder
• The SPN S6 AU (I'm not allowed to watch S6 until it's done. I didn't finish it for the big bang, but surely I will finish it by the hiatus. Surely. eep.)
• B.A./Murdock kink meme fic. (I am not allowed to write these until I finish one of the others. Repeat, self: I am not allowed to write these until I finish one of the others.)
• Warehouse 13 femslash.
• Prizes (Even if I never put time limits on my flash fic prizes, some of them were promised a shamefully long time ago.)

--

Before my wrist healed enough that I could write again, I grabbed a ton of books from the library and am now in the habit of using the interlibrary loan, too. While I have a number of books I've yet to make my way through, if anyone has any recommendations, I would love to take them.

Currently, I'm enjoying The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and I recently returned I Want to Go Home! and Over Sea, Under Stone. Gordon Korman was as delightful and amusing as expected, but I'm really hoping Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising is more engaging and entertaining a read than its predecessor. At some point, I'll type up a good chunk of my read list and impressions.
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Dear yule writer: I am just ecstatic to have more fic in the fandoms I chose for the characters I chose, but if you want further details, I should have a letter up by Wednesday. Sorry I am ridiculously slow right now!

--

My wrist is at 80% recovery or thereabouts, so I'll be resuming (occasional) posting and commenting again.

I'm ridiculously excited about Yuletide and my assignment. Who else is playing this year?
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
In the end, I wrote four stories for Yuletide, including two pinch hits and one Treat.

Anticlockwise
All the Queen's Men (Johnno/Tony/Franz): Eton boys, top secret missions, and recreating Tony's Germany of the 30's.

Chuck vs. Bowling, Drugs, and the Unexpected Romance
Chuck (Chuck/Casey): The life of the world's only functional Intersect holds a number of problems and unexpected adventures. Chuck can deal with everything but the bowling.

On the Merits of Patience
Temeraire: On the journey to the New South Wales Colony, Temeraire must remind himself of the merits of patience.

Fleeting
Clover (Ran/Gingetsu): It's a long night, and Ran welcomes it.

Some musings about the fic, fandoms, and my Yuletide experience this year )

Three of my four Yuletide betas were found by Hippos in the Yuletide chat this year, and I think I betaed four fic through the same method (and volunteered for more). My biggest changes this year were hanging out in chat (highly recommended), pinch hitting, and making an attempt at the Yuletide Treats. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and if next year I am free around Yuletide season, I will try to do it all over again.

For those of you who participated, how did your Yuletide experiences go?
everysecondtuesday: glasses and milk tea in the morning (Default)
Server load is such that I can't respond to anything, and I really do need to head to bed, but here, have three insta-recs!

Further Adventures of Coraline (and Wybie, Too)
I got my Wybourne fic! This was the one I wanted most while staring at that mystery sign, telling myself I would be happy with whatever I received and yet whispering to myself, "Be Wybourne fic. Be Wybourne fic." And my Yuletide wish came true! *twirls*

I have already thrown it at [personal profile] lizfu, but I advise the rest of you to go read it, too! Wybourne has a cold, but that does not stop him from having ADVENTURES.

Of Sick Days And Star Trek Marathons
It is Stanford era Chuck/Bryce! Fic of their college days! Also, I think y'all are stalking my health entries or something, because this is the second fic wherein my favorite character contracts a cold. Fortunately, I am mostly over mine, but if I weren't, I would totally want a Chuck to bring me soup and tell me to watch Star Trek.

Applied Problem Solving
More Chuck/Bryce! So much wanting and so much having! I am totally blessed with extra fic this year. This one is an AU wherein Bryce is Chuck's handler. Let me repeat that: BRYCE IS CHUCK'S HANDLER. After reading the first scene, I had to stop and shriek at [personal profile] jmtorres in chat for a moment. It is that awesome.

And now, it is time for me to sleep. Don't kill the servers while I'm gone. *grin*

Because winter is for celebrating fandom. Happy belated/early/on-time religious holiday of your choice, if you've so chosen.

I said I would put up a post about the guessing game prizes today (technically yesterday), but obviously I forgot to take into account the day. I will have that post up sometime before reveals.

The guessing post itself is open. WRT Yuletide, I ended up with three fic in the yuletide2009 collection and one in the yuletidemadness2009 collection. Your odds have improved!

First, let me start with an apology to my sailor for [community profile] 3_ships that it's taken me so long to put anything up for this. Feel free to ignore this letter entirely. Actually, that goes for both of you. I would much rather you follow an idea you love and write the story you want than try to force something for me.

Thank you both so much for participating! My biggest hope is that you write something you can get some joy out of writing. Let me please re-emphasize, this letter is all suggestion.

Right now, I'm rather ill, so while I'm really incredibly excited about both fests, I just don't have a lot of energy at the moment. So let me talk generalities. )

Most of my fic can be found at tuesdayfic on Delicious or at [livejournal.com profile] tuesdayfic if you're curious about some of the sort of fic I enjoy writing (and thus would enjoy reading). I would recommend checking my tags on LJ for more on particular fandoms. Everything should be under "fandom: [name of fandom in question]" though Harry Potter has several older entries under hp as well. And this is my Yuletide letter from last year.

I hope that helps, and if not, feel free to try poking me through an intermediary. Whatever you write, I am sure I will love it. ♥

After much thought, I changed my Yuletide noms to the following:

Chuck
Death Race (2008)
Lilo & Stitch (movie)
Penelope (movie)
Up
White Collar (tv)

Pretty sure I've seen other people on my read lists say they nominated The Mentalist already, and I cannot tell you how much I still need Penelope femslash after looking forlornly at my unfilled prompt for it from last year.

I'm still not sure what the ten offers I plan to limit myself to this year will be. So many choices!
